Not specific to your model, but when the cat broke apart in the 5KS, it was blocking the exhaust to the point where the car would sputter and die on left hand turns. When it finally blocked the exhaust altogether, I was in the middle of no where, I had a set of vice grips and not much else. (I wasn't a boy scout, but I take their be prepared moto seriously now.) I used the vice grips to remove the oxy sensor and drove home with no problems. It was a fairly simple procedure albeit a PITA to remove the broken off pieces from the back of the exhaust using coat hangers, a mallet and LARGE straight and bent screwdrivers. Worse case scenario you'll probably having to pay for few hours of labor to remove the back of the exhaust and have the kitty parts removed. I can't see any reason why you'd need to replace a fairly new exhaust in this case.
