K24 Transplant into 88 MC

Hi folks,
First impression update.  I transplanted a K24 in place of the K26 in the 88
5kcstq, and wanted to give a evaluation to the list.

First off, I've been driving the car w/ a MAC-10 Scott Mo. chipped ecu,
running 1.8 bar, NO muffler.  With the K26 and no muffler, I would see 1.5
bar at 2,800 rpm and 1.8 bar at 3,200 rpm.  BTW, the car is surprisingly
quiet with no muffler.  

Before the swap, Mike suggested putting on a muffler.  He said that once the
turbo was off, he could more easily get to exhaust leaks if necessary, so a
muffler made it easier to detect leaks while the car was cold.

So I put on a 2.25" hi-flow turbo muffler.  The bar numbers above moved up
about 300 rpm, to 1.5 bar at 3,000 rpm and 1.8 bar at 3,500 rpm (You know,
that the car goes like stink spot at around 3,200 - 3,500).  The car wasn't
much quieter (I'm thinking of removing it and running a pipe straight out
the back, only put the muffler on for wife trips to Mammoth).

Anyhow, back to the story.  

So on goes the K24. 

Uhhh, hello, what's that?  Feels like low-end torque.   Please move the bar
rpm numbers DOWN 1,000 rpm.  1.5 bar at 2,000 rpm and 1.8 bar at 2,500 rpm.
The car isn't more powerful, just moved the power band down lower.  Much
faster in 1st and 2nd gear.  3rd thru 5th gears didn't change much under
WOT, as the K26 is usually spooled by this time.  I think I may have chopped
off +1 sec. of 0-60 times(Seat Of The Pants estimating method).  The car is
also smoother, more like a 20vt, under WOT.  I remember Todd P. describing
Scott Mo's car at PIR.  Very smooth and fast.  I get the same feeling.

The K24 is a straight bolt in, except the turbo inlet is approx. 4cm in dia.
bigger than a K26, so you need to wrestle with the inlet rubber piece.

Next stop, single pass IC.  This is what Scott J.(QSHIPQ) recommended at
first, and I still intend to do it.  It is just that the K24 was such a
great deal I couldn't pass it up.

I'm wondering if much of the 20vt's smoothness comes from IC and turbo
changes as the 10 extra valves.  I'll let everyone know.

One last thing.  My watercooled K26 is for sale.  Came out of a car w/
108,000 miles.  Best offer.
