89 200TQ Speedo Sender

I pulled the speedo sender out of my 200tq and discovered that it was
different than the 5000's sender.  It has no moving parts and only two
pins.  The connector that plugs into it has three wires so I assume the
sender does not need the power wire.  Is this a magneitc sending unit or
what.  Is there anyway to test this sender out of the car.  Bentley's
wiring shows the same wiring as the 5000's.
