Lynn,

If you don't want to go the performance/modification route you can call 
around to some good muffler shops in your area and see if they can get the 
ANSA replacement muffler for the 4k. I have an 86 4kcsq in Boston MA and did 
not want to replace the muffler with a performance unit last year. So I had 
an ANSA aluminized replacement put on and it had held up amazingly through a 
salty winter.
