Yes there were originally valve stem seals on all the valves. Sound to me
like this would be a good time to completely disassemble the head and check
the valve guides for wear and re-lap the valve seats while you are replacing
the valve stem seals.

I had my heads (1993 V6 2.8L 12V) hot tanked to clean them
up before putting
them back together. It was suggested to me to check if there
are valve oil
seals like on other manufacture head designs that may have
been damaged or
lost during cleaning.
I didn't check before sending them out (didn't know better)
and looking at
them afterwards the only thing I see is a small O-ring
spring on the top of
valve guide. If this is the case, I assume that the cleaning
