high oil temps

lately the rr has been displaying very high oil temps (>150 cel) on the dash
gauge.  admittedly, this is during "spirited" driving, but is not normal for
the car.  water temps are rock solid, particularly now that both radiators
have been re-cored.

oil levels are fine, the oil cooler is free of obstruction (not so the rs2
when i checked it, the oil cooler was completely obscured by dead insects,
1-2cms deep!).

when i stop the car with the oil temps high, a 10sec pause before a re-start
will always see the temp gauge at a much more normal 130 degrees or less.

i suspect the sender unit.  has anyone got a test procedure for this which
they can post.
