covt top reapair

does anyone know if a cov't top can be repaired. Some un intelligent lifeform 
tried to break in thorugh the roof of my wife's car and they started to slice 
the top(1" slit). the top is canvas and should be able to be sewn together, 
and then a type of backing9to the underside) added for reinforcement and 
waterproofing.  The last time anything happend to the roof, we just replaced 
it, I just dont feel like going through the trouble, if it is not necessary.  
Why are there so many morons out there, before trying ot break a window or 
cutting tops, can't they just try the door.  Oh anyone know of any half way 
decent deals on after market CD player out there, I have know I haveto 
replcae that.  For those that are getting lazy and  decide it is too much 
trouble to take off the face plate to their stereo, be for real, it could 
save you a lot of needless trouble.
