I second Steve's recommendation. I started having trouble finding the
"back" gears (2, 4, R) and found that the clamp holding together the two
pieces of the gearshift lever was a little loose. You could tell this
easily by taking the shift boot off and noticing that the stationary
point wasn't really stationary. 

This was a few months after having my clutch replaced, which was
doubtless the source of the trouble.
