Flashing Cat Light

My new-to-me V8 had been converted from an automatic to a 5-speed. The Previous Owner did a lot of other modifications, including putting in a free-flowing 3-inch exhaust with high-performance catalytic converters. Unfortuneately, that left me with a flashing "Cat" light on the dash.

In trying to resolve another issue, I found a relay labeled "Control unit for catalyser warning" in the auxiliary relay panel under carpet in the passenger footwell. As a test, I removed the relay; the flashing warning light went out.

I still have to determine why the warning light was triggered, and fix the cause of the problem. Don't forget, the catalytic converter is a vital part of your emissions system -- maintain it to keep our air clean.

  1. The Catalyser Warning Relay, in place.
    1. Aux Relay Panel, Cat. Warning Relay #44.
  2. The Catalyser Warning Relay, removed.
    2. Cat. Warning Relay removed.
