The Cars
My first Audi was 1989 200 TQ, Pearl with Gray Sport interior. It had a habit of blowing its oil cooler lines, so I named it "Bad Puppy". Eventually it went to a step son who needed a car. He liked it a lot. One day riding home on a country road, the engine bay caught fire. He pulled over in time to bail out and watch the car burn, totaled. "Up in Smoke."
Audi #2 was a '94 100 S Avant, in pearl, since I needed a wagon. This one also went to the step-son, who is still running it.
No. 3 was a modified '91 200 TQ Avant. I loved it. I had it for a few months when one day driving home from work, passing through the Hooksett NH toll booths, I saw smoke out the back. I made my way for the state liquor store, about a mile north of the toll booth. Halfway there, my engine died and all the gauges went out. As I coasted into the parking lot, the cabin was filling with smoke. I found a remote parking spot and bailed, to watch this one go up in flames. "Up in Smoke #2."
I replaced it with a '99 A4 Avant. Nice car. Starts all the time. AC works. The Driver Information (LED) Display is faded. I was commuting to Rhode Island. One morning it wouldn't start. Mechanic said no compression, no oil. The theory is lack of oil burned the rings. Lack of a Driver Info Display meant lack of a warning. Spent too much replacing the engine. If I had to do it again, I would have taken the salvage money. But it is back together and running fine.
No. 5 is a '91 200 TQ Avant, from the same seller as #3. For a while I commuted to Rhode Island in it while the A4 was being fixed. Modified, it is a much nicer ride than the A4.
No. 6 is a '90 Audi V8, converted from an automatic to a 5-speed. This one also has A8 rotors and Mercedes S-class calipers, H&R springs (lowered) and Bilstein shocks, European e-code headlights, a 3-inch stainless steel exhaust with high-performance catalytic converters, and S4 seats. Besides all the mods, it was the seats that sold me. They fit my butt like a glove. Black-on-black, this is the one I would/will keep if I have to get down to owning only 1 Audi (but you need a spare runner, right?). All it needs is some minor tweaking.
