Perhaps you're using the wrong brand of kerosene? :-)
The gas mileage I mentioned is for no A/C and a steady 70-80
(can these cars actually _do_ a steady 65?). Usually I get
about 26+ for a 75-80 mph range, whereas the 28 would for
speeds closer to 70 mph--but hardly ever below (i.e.
slower). With the A/C running, the overall range would drop
to about 24-25 mpg. My mileage is mainly in reference to a
310 mile east/west round trip--mainly along the NYS Thruway
with gentle hills.
Around town I get no better than 16-18 mpg (but I'm a
The figures are from actual gas-pump data; I've calibrated
my odometer and know it's within a couple percent. My trip
computer mpg is well within 5% by the end of a tankfull of
gas. If I reset the trip computer while keeping a steady 70
mph on an absolutely level road with no headwind (and no
A/C) I can average around 29-30 mpg for quite a while.
Oh, and I keep 50 psi in my 14" tires. (Just kidding--I'm
still on 15" wheels)
