I think you have that reversed.  A smaller pully on the alternator means a
more favorable (higher) ratio of crank pulley to alt. pulley and
consequently higher alternator rotor rotation for given engine rpm.  Or did
I miss something (like maybe I need a beer or two)? ;-)
