The cluster is pretty much one integral unit. You need a special tool to
replace the LCD on the display, but since you cannot get an LCD as a spare
part unless you work for VDO the point is moot. Unless the cluster has been
remanufactured you will have a problem even with a used unit. Luckily when I
bought my A4 it had been sold as a certified Audi vehicle and I got the audi
assured warranty which replaced mine TWICE. Dealer costs are about 400 for
the A4 unit, and 600 for the A6's. You might also want to consider finding a
used cluster without the MFD. You get the little idiot lights instead of the
MFD but I'm not sure if it's pug and play.
