If you recently put gas in the car, double check the gas cap. Be sure it clicks 3 times. Drive the car a few days, if the light is still on, I would either find someone w/ a diagnostic tool, or take the car to a repair shop to find out what is going on. Could be an oxygen sensor, or something totally different. Tons of other possibilities, however.
So long as the light is not flashing, you're not going to hurt it if you drive it a day or two.

I went to ckeck the belts and battery and restarted the car. It was not the
the electric light but the malfunction indicator light. Boy do I feel like a
dumb###, however, the same question does apply.
