i would disagree. from what ive heard, seen and experienced, audi's have, on
the whole, gotten far more reliable, with far fewer known problem areas as
time has worn on. most notably with respect to the electrical systems. which
were, on the older cars, a complete Fing nightmare. ask any typ44 chassis
[battery splice] owner or ur-q owner [fusebox].

barring the occasional total lemon and trouble-free gem, all of the cars
have their unique problem areas. i think anyone that's been around these
cars for a while would agree that the older cars on the whole have more
problematic area's. the type44 chassis cars [5k, 2c, v8, etc] in particular
are NOTORIOUSLY glitchy in several areas [wiring, hydraulics, cis, etc]. but
this comes from being 10 years ahead of it's time and way too advanced for
it's own good. a brilliant car, but a lot of work to keep going. as painful
as it was, i do miss mine.

the drivetrains have always been regarded as being bulletproof, especially
on the older cars. no doubt to make us feel better for the fact that
everything ELSE will break.

from what ive heard, seen, read, experienced.. anyway.

84 4kq - sold
88 5kcstq - crashed, then blew up
89 90q - rebuilt, then crashed
98 a4tq - uncrashed [fingers x'd]
97 daytona - crashed, rebuilt, crashed, rebuilt
