http://forums.audiworld.com/30vv6/msgs/2819.phtml If I could leave the pump on but just put a resistor into the connector to fool the ECU than I'd be happy. I don't need the pump and no one I know does cold start emissions tests anyways. Supposedly there is also a fuse. I could pull it. I just can't have the CEL come on because my wife drives the car and she wants to sell it anyways. With a CEL there is another argument about having an expensive repair and we should sell it etc... I could give a rats arse about the pump working or not as long as I can keep the engine light off. Scott G. You'll find the air pump a few inches in front of the firewall on top of the engine on the drivers side next to the Y pipe. The part that sticks up is the motor and is about the size of a smallish can. It has a 2 or 3 wire connector on it that you could pull off and see if the noise stops or if you throw a code. I'm not sure that you'll trip the light but I seem to remember a discussion on the Audiworld website that said it did. It would make sense as its part of the emissions system and indicating emissions related problems is a primary function of the light. I'm not sure of the official name of the pump but given Audi's consistency it probably is called several different things depending on where you look. If you call a dealer or maybe Clair parts they'd probably be able to give you a price. Alternately you might be able to find more info if you search the archives on Audiworld.com. It is probably the pump because today I was standing by the left front wheel and it didn't necessarily sound like it was coming from the engine, more like from the middle of the car under the drivers side door position. What is the technical name for it? I've googled Audi tiptronic air pump and tiptronic emissions pump and found nothing. I'd like to price one out and see how to replace. Scott G. Manual's don't have them. It only runs for a short time after a cold start. It runs and drives fine. If I rev the motor while it's making this sound, the tone does not change at all, it stays constant. Because it stays constant I don't think it's turbo related. Any ideas what this may be? Scott G.
