Well the standard is ET45 on a 7.5 inch rim.  Bump that up an inch but lower the offset will indeed push it further out if I am visualizing it correctly.  I don't think you'd have brake clearance issues but I believe you'd have another problem...  That much offset and a wide tire, in my rudimentary estimation, would give you hellish fender rub.   

FWIW I'm running 18x8, ET 32 (including a spacer) and 225 tires and get fender rub at times.  Although I'm very low...

thanks, given that standard is 225 on ET45 am i right in thinking the change will move the centre of the tyre out 25mm, with the inner face being 12mm further out and the outer face being 37 further out?
