how rare is the A8L

By automotive standards, there weren't many of them built, but the "L"
(Lange) version has actually become more common in the states than the
"normal" A8, at least since the L was introduced. It's got a 5 inch
extension, mostly visible in the length of those very large rear doors. For
'02, there were hardly any A8's built. Both versions come with the 310hp
4.2L V8 in the states. I just sold our last '02 A8L. It had a sticker of
$73,365, which included the Tire Pressure Monitoring System and the Luxury
Alcantara and Premium Leather trim package, a $3500 option alone. Audi had
dealer cash to us of nearly $7K, which is extremely rare for Audi, so we were
able to sell it to a lucky customer (hint, if you ski in NC, look for it at
Sugar Mtn.) for about $60K, or about $5K in back of invoice. For '03, all US
spec A8's were built in August, again, with only a handful being SWB cars,
and only 300 special edition S8's were built along with them. All this is
being done to make way for the new A8, which goes into production in November
I believe. Look for it in showrooms somtime in May-June, followed shortly by
the RS6, if your local dealer is fortunate enough to be one that gets to sell
