How to clean wheels?

Acetone will remove the laquer finish as well, so not necessarily the best.
One of the solvents that may be laying around is charcoal lighter fluid.
That would be good for removing tar, without eating through the paint
finish. I often use Isopropyl alcohol, but need to be careful with this on
paint as well.

[ I have had remarkable success with A&W Tire Cleaner. When I first got my
current 100 the brake dust was so caked on, I thought it was paint. No
cleaner would touch it. The A&W Tire Cleaner was recommended, so I tried
Squirt it on, work it with a paper towel, hose it and it is gone. Since I
having such good luck I haven't tried any other "tire cleaners". Don't
trying it on the glue residue from wheel weights. If it doesn't work, I
recommend acetone, the "universal solvent".
