86 5ks drivers side window regulator rebuilds

i have rebuilt several window regulators on various audi's.
you need 1/16" aircraft grade cable and 1/16" aluminum ferrels. and a lot
of patience.
what seems to cause most of the failures that i have seen (all of them
actually) is the plastic piece
breaks where the cable goes into the motor housing, this cause the cable to
drag and fray.
i go to wreckers and pull these pieces off and try and keep some spares
around for future rebuilds.
easiest way to do it is a couple hours of work if you want it right. i
replace the cable as one piece and make
sure the springs have enough tension, reassembly can be a bit tricky. i use
a computer power supply 12v to test
them for proper functionality before reinstalling.

i believe there is a writeup in the archives.
