Max, I think it is just the rubber breaking down over time, just today we pulled the mats from my daily beater (89 200TQA) and found the same thing. No way to fix it, just find some new mats. :-( Today the reman steering unit in the S6 pissed a litre or so of hydraulic into the driver footwell upon first use! The Audi gods hate my carpets today for some reason. -----Original Message----- From: quattro-bounces at audifans.com [mailto:quattro-bounces at audifans.com] On Behalf Of Max Hoepli Sent: Saturday, August 22, 2009 5:41 PM To: audi_owners_usa at yahoogroups.com Cc: urq at audifans.com; quattro at audifans.com; w-t_audifans at yahoogroups.com Subject: Carpet Mat Hello all, For a 1986 Type 44 Quattro with Turbo, my right front carpet mat, which lays on top of the base carpeting, has a tan rubber underside, I was vacuuming, and found that the front leading left edge of the tan rubber came off the carpet mat and was impregnated into the base carpeting. This happened as if the rubber melted or was dissolved into the base carpeting. What could have caused this? How to remove the impregnated rubber in the base carpeting?
