Don't forget, car side windows (at least the door windows) aren't confined,
so heat stress should be released, unlike house windows. And as Taka
mentioned, they're tempered, although that actually means that they're
pre-stressed which causes them to shatter in the "pebble" pattern rather
than in shards.
