[torsen] rebuild or swap 89 TQ w/ bad trans/torsen ?

In my first week of ownership of my 89 200 TQ, I was a victim of a
manual transmission that cooked.  Symptoms were: slow, dragging
feeling, increased dragging, then a loud thud, then rolled off the
freeway, locked in gear.  After it cooled, I was able to change
gears, but it did not want to roll backwards (until something " let
loose").  Without being a trans / differential wizard, I'm guessing I
lost a bearing in the differential.  I couldn't find any posts on
rebuilding toasted torsens or any conclusive posts on transmission
swapping.  Trans code is AET  A0A, engine is MC.  Estimated value of
car running - $1000.
Any insight is appreciated.
