[urq] Limited Urq content - help for my sisterThomas Pollock tompollock2002 at yahoo.comMon Dec 10 16:08:38 PST 2007
tough call. I had a similar situation although a ford 8-(. garage "thought" they could fix for some amount. I agreed, one thing lead to another, and before you know it, I was looking at a motor. the shop offered to eat 50%. I was actually thrilled... and did end up throwing a rebuilt motor in. obviously, doesn't help with cost comparison. as far as an indy. I know Jim Pasqualoni liked http://www.sportscarworkshop.com/ . I ordered parts from them and haved talked to the owner over the phone and they seem like a place I would try if they (or I) were a little closer... cheers, tom. Brandon Rogers <brogers at terrix.com> wrote: Guys- So my sister and soon-to-be BiL live in NH - neither of them work on cars or are car-savvy...so he was driving his ~'96 325i and apparently the water pump broke - caused water temps to climb - I'm guessing the pressure broke and old hose or two - bottom line he drive for about 15 minutes with the temp in the red. So the dealer made a big repair - water pump, hoses blah blah blah and now they say the engine is still shot. This is all 3rd hand of course.... So my sister called me to ask if it is normal business for them to go ahead and charge the $2000+ even though the car is still not operational - she was wondering that since it did not fix the car couldn't they take the parts back off that were not mandatory and refund that money (but still pay the labor). Like keep the water pump but take off other stuff??? of course the "take parts off labor" would probably cancel any reduced parts cost. I told her that unfortunately they probably could not once they were installed, anybody know or think different? Can somebody recommend a good trustworthy independent BMW mechanic in the Portland Maine area? That's where the car is - but they live in Manchester NH. Anybody know the basic cost to just swap in a used motor? Thanks for any insight. Limited urq content - we had great snow here in Denver and since I have yet to put my winter wheels on my poor urq did not see a flake of snow. Bummer. More Audi content - yes my BiL and sister should get an Audi for NE winters....
