[urq] Oh, sad day (was Re: save the junkyard urq)Ben Swann benswann at verizon.netFri Nov 30 15:27:10 PST 2007
That reminds me about the day I found a rare 100 speedometer cluter with gray/white gauges. I pulled the cluster and left on the counter telling the guy Id be back as I had to go get some more parts. That cluster was easily worth $150 and they wanted mere pennies for it. Upon return, the cluster had disappeared. When I asked where it went, I found out some moron removed everything on the counter and and had it all shredded. Needless to say I was livid and kicking myself for leaving it there. You all know I was trying to buy it out of the junkyard. Well, on Monday we agreed on the price and that I would get the car. On Tuesday the junkyard moved it to a "protected" area at my request, until my father could get down there on Thursday and inspect it and pay them for it. On Wednesday afternoon they crushed it. Clearly someone or several people at the junkyard made a mistake. When people get paid $5, they don't really care much. :-( So at least I have the two ECUs and an Abt dash from the car. I don't remember the VIN, but I will get it so Bill can officially tag it as "deceased" on the registry list. In the grand scheme of life, this is small potatoes. But it is sad and good to mourn the car's passing. I'm driving my Urquattro today in tribute. Funny how you can be sad, but still have a grin when you're driving one.
