[urq] WX to MC-2 Swap - Oil and Intake plumbingurq urq at pacbell.netSun Oct 7 19:11:23 PDT 2007
I will try to keep the number of messages I put to the list to a minimum ... and if anyone feels I'm sending too many messages on this don't hesitate to let me know ... OIL: Today I remembered that I have two alloy oil pans that I've picked up over the years. One of them is a one piece affair ... part # 054 103 603C, and the other has a main pan, an alloy extension and a plastic windage tray ... 034 103 603B, 034 103 627D and 034 103 623. I'm thinking I can use the latter part, but the extension might interfere with something. Does anyone know which models these parts came from? Is anyone using the part with the extension in a 10V urq application? There is some sort of oil return line fitting on the extension, I suspect it may come from the turbo. I'm assuming that I'll want to keep the single oil filter flange from the MC, but I wonder if there's going to be an issue interfacing to the WX's oil cooler. It seems larger than the one from the MC ... but I do have both available ... INTAKE: When I saw the MC airbox I was worried that I'd never be able to get it to fit on the WX airbox ... but the plate bolted right up! It also appears that the top flange on the airflow sensor funnel is the same size as the WX variant, so the alloy igloo should attach. I'm going to have to move some of the items that attach to the fuel distributor around I'm sure. There are a couple air paths on the MC which would need to get worked into the WX airbox. One path is the IAC/ISV path, which basically allows air to bypass the throttle plate when the engine is idling. The other is the valve which shuts off the fuel to the engine on overrun by bypassing the airflow sensor plate. I want to have the idle stabilizer function working, I'm not so worried about the airflow sensor plate bypass. If anyone has a solution they worked out for these paths I'd appreciate hearing about them. I'm on to the electrical details now ... as noted earlier, I'm figuring that I'll be able to determine a way to make it so that the car will run fairly easily. A long time ago I got a copy of the MB service documentation ... I need to dig it up! I'm thinking that this with the Bentley for the 200Q will get me the info I need to work out the details ... I'm still hunting flywheel ... Steve B San José, CA (USA)
