[urq] As the Flywheel Turns ...urq urq at pacbell.netSat Oct 20 18:28:49 PDT 2007
Well, as usual it seems that whenever I try to plan out what I'm doing to get my car on the road something happens that causes a big rethink ... I had started the day planning to drop off the flywheel from Nate which arrived last night and start installing the wiring loom for the MAC-14 in the car ... problems started as soon as I arrived. John says the clutch I have won't work with this flywheel! A bunch of discussion and looking at the three flywheels I find that it certainly appears that the pin in the flywheel from my WX engine is no more than half a flywheel tooth away from the one on the flex plate and the one on the newly arrived flywheel. The big difference in the angle I had heard is due to the fact that the reference sensor is located in a completely different location on the WX as compared to the MC! The cool thing was finding that the WX has the reference sender mounted on the tranny bellhousing, and the MC-2 has it mounted on the block ... so I can have it either way without much difficulty ... I consulted with QSHIPQ for a while (thanks Scott!) and came to the decision that I'd just go with my WX flywheel and intake manifold ... and MAC-02 computer. We'll get the car back together and running for the most part as a WX engine ... and I can go ahead and do the MAC-14 conversion at home. The cool thing is that I'll be able to use the car while I'm getting the conversion ready. I'm dealing with how much the DMV says I owe to get the car registered ... hopefully I can close on that soon. John is pretty sure he can get the car to pass smog in the configuration we're setting up ... John told me several times that the way we're now going is exactly what he recommended to me up front!
