[urq] early balljoints = 944 balljoints??

A poster on Motorgeek said that it looks like 944 balljoints work (or
are the same) as early urq balljoints.  Anybody know anything about
that?  Personally I can't believe Audi would use a proprietary ball
joint on such a low volume car...but ???????
 
It doesn't matter so much to me but thought this might be interesting...
