I think it depends what you ultimately want to end up
with. After having gone through 4 engine configurations
in my '84 ur-q I have arrived at what I really wanted
in the first place, although maybe a turbo and exhaust
manifold upgrade in the future :) and so it goes on....

Set your horse power and reliability expectations, along
with the intended use of the car and go from there.
As a daily driver a 3B motronic controlled car brings
the ur-q right up to date, and in some ways beyond (no need
to worry about the CEL coming on when you fill up).
