[urq] Shift Linkage adjustmenturq urq at pacbell.netThu Apr 3 23:07:55 PDT 2008
... been racking my brain on this one ... seems to me that you should be able to drop a 5kQ transmission in there with the urq linkage and everything should work ... could the location of the ball joint on the bell housing have changed? That is the only thing I can come up with that might cause a difference. The thing that killed me was when the bolt that locks the shifter rod to the tranny input shaft came loose. ISTR that the first indications I had that there was a problem were in reaching one limit or the other laterally. It really needs to be fully tightened into the shift rod or else it will add a lot of slop, and the slop will get worse. On my car with the new engine I had the locating rod (the part you are referring to that goes from the shift linkage to the bell housing) work itself loose and pop off one side. When that happened I was only able to get to some of the gears laterally ... Good luck! Steve B San José, CA (USA) -----Original Message----- I have been trying to get the shifting right on my Ur Q that has a transmission from a 5000 turbo quattro. It either seems to want to go into first and not reverse, or in reverse and not first/second. Seems that is would like a wider throw. The only way I can get it to hit all the gears is by leaving the stop plate loose. I had installed new bushings and rod link including main link ball when I did the swap. It may have developed a little slop, but nothing seriously loose. Im wondering if adjusting the connecting rod (part # 35 on ETKA diagram) either shorter or longer will help do I shorten or lengthen it? Any BTDT on this.
