[urq] Engine removalLouis-Alain Richard larichard at plguide.comFri Apr 18 13:26:21 PDT 2008
Well in fact, after thinking of it, ramps are no good since the front a-arms will be detached from the subframe. Jack stands will be used instead. I guess I'll have to raise the car enough with 3 tons jack stands, maybe with the help of some bricks. So I'll leave the CV halfshafts in place as well as the a-arms, but I'll have to remove the swaybar. I am guessing that I will be able to install the engine complete, block + head + exhaust + transmission all in one shot ? If this is the case, then it would be a lot easier to install all this, including the clutch, while it is outside of the car. Good news. Well it looks I won't need to rent an engine hoist after all. BTDT about 10 times.. :) You can lower the assembly with a 2 Ton jack and then use it to drag the whole thing out from undearneath. BTW you do not need to remove the bumper or the valance... BTDT without removing those as well. Hope this helps. -- Martin Pajak http://www.quattro.ca 1982 Audi Ur-quattro, SQ project 1983 Audi 80 quattro, Euro 2-Door!! 1987 Audi 4000s quattro, wintervagen mit 7A und 5 bolt :) > Louis-Alain Richard > As we approach the day of the swap, we now must figure a way to remove > the old block from the car.
