[urq] [s-cars] ATF fluid in the reservoir : What to do?Eric Renneisen racingiron at comcast.netTue Feb 26 18:22:45 PST 2008
Your description (especially "serrated nut on top") indicates this is the hydraulic assist reservoir. ATF in there is the originally supplied fluid (Dexron II, I think). Audi superceded the ATF with P/N G002000, which we all know as Pentosin (first 7.1, then the synthetic 11S), when the later cars came along. I've heard that the higher pressure systems in the type 44 required the new fluid. It worked fine in the urq, so they just specified it for everything rather than having to keep both ATF and Pentosin around. I've seen various recommendations for switching the fluid, from "just use whatever's handy," to "don't ever mix them." I run Pentosin 11S in mine, mostly because I have it around for the S4s and former CQ anyway. I'd say you're fine with the ATF. Your brake problems lie elsewhere, possibly a siezed caliper from non-use? Eric R. There is one (or 2?) master cylinders just above the drivers footwell area but inside the engine compartment . One has a little rectangular fluid res. , I checked it too and it has green/blue color fluid. I guess the ATF has not gone everywhere, maybe? ? So, if that be true, then maybe I won't have to rebuild/replace All the cylinders . ...Thanks, ... Stephen R.
