[urq] Red 85 on eBay final bid....Gary Brown gmbchef at sbcglobal.netSun Mar 16 19:07:44 PDT 2008
I've seen a Titian red 85 in person, and the rings and stripes were,in fact, silver. This was a one owner car, and it was pretty tattered, but it was all there. Justin Riley has it now in Fla. The one on eBay must be Mars or Tornado red, but I don't think those were offerd from the factory in 85, correct? http://www.audi-quattro.org/misc/redurq/index.htm Gary <<<"Have you gone and looked at the car? Actually, I did go and look at the car yesterday- It is AMAZING- and it has definitely NOT been repainted. The Ring colors are correct.(Well, not sure what your definition of "correct" is- but if there is a question whether the car came like that from the Factory- it did- so if that makes it not "correct" then you're "correct" but assuming whatever the factory produced was "correct" then this car and combination is "correct") He showed me photos of the car that the selling dealer used for a brochure they did of the car on the showroom floor before the car was even delivered and the Rings were black. He also showed me a photo journal of various other UR's in RED all with the Black Rings/Stripes- and I would have to agree with him that it would seem odd that so many folks would have removed the "correct" silver as you state and go through all the trouble to have black stripes put on along with the Black Rings- Just doesn't make sense- He even had an official photograph from AUDI showing black rings/stripes on a red car- so not sure where your information is coming from but I hope being part of this forum we would all be more cautious about comments before all research has been done. As for the front end road rash comment- again speculation on your part I believe- it appears the car has always worn a two piece front bra which was also there with the car- if anything you can see a very slight sign of that on the hood that I think could most likely be polished out without much trouble. If I had the cash available, I would buy this car in a minute- It is beautiful- I've seen nicer cars that have undergone incredible restorations and look incredible with Euro bumpers and lights and other modifications, but not original like this one- so don't be a hater until you go out and see it first- come on- it's only fair- you wouldn't want people trashing your car with false assumptions and "facts" now would you? Email the guy and ask him for a copy of the photos he showed me of ! all the red UR's with black to start- and then go look at the car before making judgements! Cheers! Erik">>>
