[urq] gas pedal wierdness

I was out in the urq this morning and as I downshifted around a turn, 
the gas pedal flopped to the floor.  The engine just came down to idle 
revs.  I got the toe of my shoe under the pedal and pulled up and it 
came WAY up, but stuck there and was suddenly 'connected' again, so I 
light-footed it back home with the very odd feeling of a gas pedal in a 
plane far above where it should be.  Before I dig down under and check 
under dash and under hood linkage, I thought it prudent to ask for 
advice/previous experience on what to look for...(at 53, I don't twist 
down there as easily as I used to!).
