[urq] Security alarm?

"mobile alert" was a brand sold by Radio Shack back in those days ... turns
out I bought one myself, but newer installed in the urq ... the one I bought
connected to the radio antenna and came with a pager to notify you if the
alarm was set off.  

As you and others surmise it may well indeed be a dealer add on, that too
was common in those days ... or it could have been installed by a PO who
wanted it to look as factory as possible ... I usually try to use VAG parts
for the mods I do ...

I was going to remove what I thought was an aftermarket alarm that had been
mounted in the glove box of an '83.  It has a name on it of "Mobile Alert".
It had a harness attached to it that led to 4 relays and two fuses which
were mounted above the glove box. The relays have the Audi/VW logo on them
and the harnesses are wrapped in the same tape as the main wiring harness.
Did Audi offer an optional security system and/or an aftermarket dealer
installed one? I also found the remote for it which also says mobile alert
and has a red and green button. There is also some type of motion sensor
mounted on the rear hat tray. Any ideas? Peter.
