[urq] Closeout tiresBrandon Rogers brogers at terrix.comWed Oct 22 10:44:10 PDT 2008
Yeah I have specific summer and winter tires - so don't care that the summers are like slicks on snow. That said I have been caught at work a few times when the car has summer wheels/tires mounted when I wasn't paying attention - and it snowed or streets froze over. With diffs locked it was manageable but still sucked. I don't automatically swap winters (BBS wheels from a 200 20V or Fuchs) on in fall and leave them all winter. I usually just put winters on for a few weeks at a time... $58/tire - wow that is cheap. Kinda funny - now that my tires got ruined - I'm kinda kicking myself for not using em up at the track at Urq25. Oh well 20/20 is always hindsight Brandon '84 ur -----Original Message----- From: Robert Pastore [mailto:pastorer at optonline.net] Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 11:00 AM To: Brandon Rogers Cc: urq at audifans.com Subject: Re: [urq] Closeout tires I've been in the market for tires this past week too. The selection of tires in the OEM size 215/50/15 are few, with only dunlop sp5000's an a BFG tire still available. I too, jumped to 225/50/15, and was considering the SP9000, but decided against based on the description, which says in part "The SP Sport 9000 is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice". I've got Hakka's for the winter, but they're getting a little tired too. Finally, I just went the cheap route and bought the Kuhmo's ECSTA AST's for $58 per tire. I could not find a used one to take it's place (and put off buying new tires for 12-18 months) so anyway I ended up buying some Dunlop Sport 9000s in 225 50 ZR15. $81/per at TireRack on closeout. Shipping was $50 to Denver. Local pricing was $135-$150/tire. So the closeout was a killer deal. Just got them installed last night - so no driving impressions yet but I'm confident they'll be great. So if you are going to need new summer tires in the next few months - might be worth checking gout.
