[urq] Best Way to Change Fuel Pressure Accumulatorurq urq at pacbell.netFri Jun 5 20:40:09 PDT 2009
... the only time I've ever had a problem with a large volume of fuel draining was when I've had to deal with the fuel lines feeding the pump. I've changed filters, disconnected the fuel lines at the fuel distributor on a number of occasions ... once the fuel and pressure in the FPA is relieved there's no problem with fuel draining through the pump ... Perhaps the biggest problem Andrew's going to have to deal with is loosening those fuels lines which have been running around underneath the car for 24 years ... make sure to use sufficient penetrating lube on the threads. The other thing to remember is that you are opening lines on the "clean" side of the filter ... do your best to keep contaminant out of the fuel system. Steve Buchholz -----Original Message----- Andrew - what about putting some sort of plug in there instead of crimping? Yes you will lose some gas during the nasty part of getting the plug in - but less risk of damage. I don't know - just a thought... Brandon -----Original Message----- In the past I clamped off the main soft fuel supply line to stop the flow of fuel whenever I changed the fuel pump, the fuel filters, etc. Then people said that was not good as it might damage the fuel line. Short of draining the tank - yeah right - is there a preferred way to stop the flow of fuel while doing this operation? Do those rounded roller clamps they make for this job work better to shut off the fuel? Thanks. Andrew Finney 1985 UrQ V8.
