Yes the Iltis was indeed built by Bombardier (of Ski-Doo snowmobile fame) for the Canadian Army. We see them once in a while. There is even one painted orange with flowers that comes to see one of my neighbours each summer. Cool little 4x4, but was it the real ancestor of the Q7 ? I don't know yet. The Munga is closer to Audi than the Iltis, in my view. The 200/5000 Avant is probably the real first AWD people-mover from Audi, but I used it for the A8 ancestor already, albeit in sedan form. A the Typ 43 hatchback, a 1930's Horch or a even an hypothetical big luxury sedan from Wanderer could also fill the bill. Keep'em coming ! Louis-Alain -----Message d'origine----- Pantelis, I presume you're thinking of the Morris Traveler. I'm fairly familiar with them as my mom used to drive one....long before I came along though. They had no relation to the DKW that I know of. They are from the same period of time and do share some styling cues though. The Iltis was a military vehicle that got its start with the Munga so it would be the younger of the two. Louis-Alain is probably more familiar with them than most of us as the Canadian military used them for many years after the Germans stopped. Production (and, I believe naming) moved from Volkswagen to Bombardier. ~Mark Pantelis Giamarellos wrote: > Mark Hi, > > The "woody" wagon looks extremely similar to a vehicle that was made in the > UK at around the same time. > We all know that the German automobile heavy industry was kickstarted > adopting a few things from the British right after the war.
