[V6-12v] oil consumption and egr system and replacing instrumentbulbs

Interesting topic to me, as I've just started precise measurements of how
much oil my 92 80 is using to how many miles, as it seems to have increased since
it's last service. Again, there are no obvious leaks or burning off of oil.
Your e-mail particularly interested me because the only thing significant that
was changed at the last service was the type of oil - we changed from Castrol
Magnatec 10W-40, to Mobil One motorsport formula 15W-50. Now, me and my trusty
mechanic did think about whether to change such an old car to a fully synth
oil after all these years (it's always been on semi-synth), but he'd recently
done some work on the chambers and sump and said it was basically remarkably
clean 'like new', so we thought there shouldn't be a problem. Well, in theory
there isn't as it still runs fine and there's no signs of 'mayonnaise'. But
subjectively, it suddenly seems to be consuming much more oil. So I'm just
wondering if there's a correlation between your Mobil One experience in a similar
aged engine and mine... I think i'm gonna change back to Magnatec anyway at the
next lubrication interval as i think on balance it's a better oil (I found out
that Audi actually use it now as their standard service oil, and my own
mechanic thinks it's superior too and provides better wear protection)... Anyone
else had any oil consumption experiences of note?
