[V6-12v] AC question

Thanks for the info before on the dashboard removal. It really is so simple,
you don¹t even need to take off the steering wheel. Great.
Now, next problem. I¹ve had it out, replaced the bulbs, then found on
re-fitting that it wasn¹t the bulbs after all. The rev-side of the dashboard
is just unlit. BUT the gauges actually work, so it¹s not a feed problem in
that sense (the tachometer and temp gauge etc. all work). Here¹s the thing:
if you give the dash above it a little tap, it all flicks back on. So it
must be some kind of loose connection, or maybe a dry joint. But there isn¹t
an accessibly circuit board for me to look at. Has anyone had one of these
things apart? Am I asking for a whole bunch of trouble if I open the thing
I¹d like to know what I¹m getting into beforehand, if anyone has any
