... there are a variety of definitions out there what a classic line is
and what it not is.
The "hardcore" definition says: An Audi V8 Classic Line has one of the
colour combinations of the sales sheet, a manual gearbox and a manual AC.
Actually, I see it a little bit more relaxed and say: An Audi V8 Classic
Line has one of the colour combinations of the sales sheet, no matter
which kind of extras it has or not has.
Audi seems to say: An Audi V8 Classic Line is everything based on the
extended by the customer's wiches. E.g. Mr. Tim Connollys care my mate
ownes I've told already about has a Cognac (light brown) / Black leather
arrangement, but Pomerol-green outside. That's actually not a Classic
Line, but sold as a Classic Line (we have the original receipt).
A lot of people say (and that's definetely wrong in my eyes): Every Audi
V8 with Magnolia seats (your "butter" ones ;), no matter which kind of
seats, is a Classic Line. Or: Every V8 with leathered doorboards is a
Actually there is not "the one and real" definition of Classic Line at
all - we had dozens discussions in the last year about it. In any case
the Audi V8 Classic Line is an extremely rare version (I guess even more
rare than the ABT extensions) having a very well crafted full leather
interior and providing a complete different "sit in and shut down"
feeling in comparison to a "usual" V8. In contrast it is very hard to
keep it in a good condition as the leather is always Connolly, which is
very sensitive no matter which colour it is, and if you have the
Magnolia colour it starts looking dirty very quick.
Actually there has also been an Audi V8 long wheel based Classic Line
version called "Office version", which is even more rare (there are four
pieces in the wild common to us). Concerning the emblem: A classic line
usually has NO emblem, but there are some (at least the office versions)
which have them on the passenger airbag wood.
Ah, very interesting is also that it seems like the brown secondary
leather interior combination has neven been ordered as after monitoring
the international market for nearly six nears now never - really never -
a Classic Line came up with that interiour. There has been one, and only
one, which had the red combination (Magnolia/Pinotred) together with
Cognac but I fear it has been destructed. No idea where the interior has
Actually, the following Classic Line V8 cars are known to me:
- Audi V8 Avant (prototype) manual gearbox, Ex-Piech car, Magnolia/Green
inside, Robingreen outside, leathered roof, to be seen in the Ingolstadt
Audi museum in Germany
- Audi V8 Lim. automatic gearbox, right hand driven, Ex-Tim-Connolly,
Cognac/Black inside, Pomerolgreen outside, leathered roof, private
- Audi V8 Lim. manual, the "original" Classic Line from the sales sheet,
Magnolia/Black inside, Brillant black outside, leathered roof, private
property, Germany, restored from a very poor condition
- Audi V8 Lim. automatic gearbox, forth last V8 ever built, 1994,
Magnolia/Green inside, Balmoralgreen (Rolls Royce) outside, alcantara
roof, private property, Austria
- Audi V8 Lim. manual, no Bose, Magnolia/Blue, perhaps Marina-blue,
leathered roof, private property, Germany
- Audi V8 LWB automatic, office v., right hand driven,
Ex-African-Frontline politician car (don't ask me who, could ask if you
want to), Cognac/Green, hidden in Neckarsulm by Audi
- Audi V8 LWB automatic, office v., lhd, Magnolia/Black, black outside,
private property, Germany
- Audi V8 LWB automatic, office v., Magnolia/Blue, Indigoblue perl
effect outside, private property, Germany
- Audi V8 automatic, Magnolia/Green, Balmoral green, private property,
Germany, restored from a very poor condition
- approximately 5 Audi V8 Classic Line being in a rather poor condition
or condition and history unknown which came across me in the last years
and have been sold to people not common to the community (well, some of
the cars listed above are also in the property of people who would
prefer that nobody knows that they own the car, however, bad luck) - I
also count the one discussed right here
Hopefully I haven't overseen one - nevertheless you see that they are
unholy rare and finding one a good condition is nearly impossible.
