Well, I would beg to differ comrade. With the proper oil, not plugged in, I
know for fact that a 97 tdi Passat with 200000kms on the clock starts when
parked overnight without any assistance from normal other than an orbit
(optima) battery at -30C, reliably. Starting at any temp is a walk in the
park with a 400 watt block heater plugged in, to -45C and beyond.
And it gets colder in parts of continental Europe than it does here.
A td should be good to go at -25C or there's something not right.
it's all maintenance and preparation.
