  I was going to say it's your upper strut bearing.  I still say that's what 
it sounds 
like.  Check that it turns freely, the bearing balls are lubed and that the 
springs are seated properly in the recesses for the ends of the springs.
I've had and heard the same thing a few times and it's always been 
binding strut bearings.
