[Vwdiesel] Fuel Mileage InputHWY9FERGS at cs.com HWY9FERGS at cs.comSun Mar 7 22:28:14 EST 2004
Hi all, Thanks for the welcome and all the input. You've given me plenty to chew on and I'll start paying attention to the cetane numbers if they are even posted. And I'll try using an additive. From other sources it sounds like even just putting ATF in there can help clean injectors and improve mileage (I think that was on a web site). Apparently these things will even run on ATF! Or just about any oil. If I want to try tuning it a little differently, like cutting back to the specs for the non turbo engines or thereabouts, can that make a difference in mileage at a steady state cruise? I understand how it will help you if you are just plain leadfooted, but will the decrease in the pump stroke somehow increase the efficiency? It seems to me that the way these engines are set up, the more fuel you pour into em the faster they go. If you cut back on the fuel flow with pump adjustments, won't the result be you having to push the accelerator pedal just a tad farther down to reach the same cruise speed-thus yielding the same mileage? Or is the pump timing somehow the secret, or--------am I chasing my tail here??? Well, I am wondering one thing, Hagar, can you be just a bit more specific? ***As to mileage on my 1984 Turbo 1.6L Rabbit ---WOW -- ***astronomical right now. I have the fueling set right down to minimum . Thanks again
