I've got the Volkswagenwerk Dasher manual here, published in 7/78.  Up until 
then all the 4 spd. boxes were 4.11 final drives.  The highest 4th gear was 
the 0.94 of the '75 YZ tranny.  For '76-'78 they dropped the gearing of 4th 
to 1.13.
