[Vwdiesel] Gasser pulley to diesel sprocket- ( the Valve train )

If the tapered diesel cam stud,  most outward, smallest
dimension is
the same as the gasser parallel,  could the sprocket have a
taper
milled/cut into it without jeopardizing the integrity of the
sprocket?

Looking at my picture book the gasser lug does indeed look
smaller; but the basic sprocket central flesh looks pared
out to its limits ...Although woodruff key slot could be
left off ....
Nope I can't say... No gasser bits on site anymore except my
Bedford (8OD)
