[Vwdiesel] Old diesel in newer gas chassis?James Hansen jhsg at sasktel.netThu Apr 14 11:26:07 EDT 2005
Any newer diesel has the mount points to attach any motor mount configuration found in any older version along with accessories etc. Any older diesel engine does not necessarily have all the right holes to attach the motor mounts and accessories, as the new style mounts were not necessarily invented yet at the time of block manufacture. it is way easier to use a newer engine from a wreck to transplant into an older car. Not so the other way around. If you want to do that, pay close attention to motor mount lugs on the blocks, and become familiar with them. Not that it can''t be done, but there would be more surgery involved. Watch for the radial A/C compressor, it is required to install a diesel as the other option does not fit. You need all the bracketry that is diesel specific as well. Other than that, vw's are very easy to transplant engines across models/years. -James -----Original Message----- From: vwdiesel-bounces at vwfans.com [mailto:vwdiesel-bounces at vwfans.com]On Behalf Of Ron Schroeder Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 5:48 AM To: vwdiesel at vwfans.com Subject: [Vwdiesel] Old diesel in newer gas chassis? Hi, Good condition diesels are almost impossable to find around here so I was wondering of any problems with putting an older 1.6L diesel in a A3 or A4 chassis. Performance is no problem (I used to have a '80 Audi 4000S diesel). I must retain A/C but that is about the only luxury that I have to have. What should I look out for? Thanks Ron (dieseless in NY) _______________________________________________ Vwdiesel mailing list Vwdiesel at vwfans.com http://www.audifans.com/mailman/listinfo/vwdiesel -- No virus found in this incoming message.
