I'm not sure what happens to the oil galleries - the non-hydr. head & block only has the one between cylinders 2 & 3 on injector side of head/block. The hydraulics have an extra smaller passage between cylinders 1 & 2, and the centre one is also larger (I think). I have one of each in my garage right now, so can compare, but I don't know if it is safe to run hydr. head on older block. I would think not, since that extra oil gallery must serve some purpose... I'm not sure if it is supply or return. Also, the hydraulic engines used a larger oil pump, 36mm vs 30mm for 86+ engines. Replacement pumps are all 36mm I believe, direct replacement for 30mm pump.
