material coming off the precups, even though they do it wet. He said a mirror smooth finish would require their diamond cutter, and the precups will destroy the cutter (is this true? _______ Diamond cutters detest interrupted cuts, which this more or less is. They make an expensive poof! I have seen with my own two eyes a CBN (cubic boron nitride) insert cutter doing a surface finish that had barely perceptable swirl from the fly cutter. Swirl, not grooves. That should be reproduceable by any shop. Has a lot to do with feed rate, cutter speed, sharpness of insert, and depth of cut. In short, experience. -james I though diamond was pretty hard...). He assured me they have not had any problems with VW diesels heads done like this. He also said the cracked precup was not a problem, and that replacing & machining one to fit would be 1.5 hours. He says they often are cracked, and do not cause a problem. I will try to pick it up later today and take some pics. On the plus side, the welding job they did on the coolant cavity appears excellent - I had a hard time even spotting it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Shawn Wright, I.T.
