Hold on to your hat. Ontario Hydro now charges (sticks) me the poor bastard
customer for their line losses at their side of the meter. That is one of
the *new* charges. BTW, you know what "Debt Retirement Charge" that shows
up here on the new billing really is don't you? It is the cost of funding
the lavish retirement of those executive bastards that accumulated Hydro's
massive debt in the first place! What really burns my noodle is that even
if I go completely independantly off-grid and get them to yank the meter
I'll still be paying Ontario Hydro's debt through my taxes.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] ----( The Power Factor )
This bugs the hydro co. because your meter shows less watts used than you
actually used, and they have to generate more power than they can charge you
for to supply your load..
Sandy Cameron I hagar got to cut in on this one ---------- to explain to
that we are talking about different types of Hydro Meters. A NORMAL haus
meter in this area is
a simple aluminium disk coupled to a counter . And it measures
It does not care what the powerfactor is. ----------My penalty on the
compressor was on
a very complicated Industrial meter.
Sandy and all I understand that the meter measures ALL the wattage used
in a cse of severe case of low powerfactor ---they the Hydro pays for the
loss in the lines
for which they do not get paid. ------- losses on our side of the
eter ---we pay for.
It makes sense to correct . The loss is fairly small in most cases.
Is it possible to measure Power Factor ? ----on a Genset standby unit ?
The enemy is called KVAR. ---or Vars if you like.
with Cosine of Phi and you get watts. Cos Phi ? yes it is on the
most motors and generators.(Alternators). Are your palms getting sweaty ?
are mine.----my senility is showing.
Relax ---in a NORMAL household ? ---DO not worry about power factor.
This talk is for us Genset nuts. -----
